Kathleen Bolivar Artist
Click on a category below for samples of Kathleen's work. As a child, growing up in Arizona, I loved to draw but never considered art as a career option. I was educated at Arizona State University and received a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Northern Arizona University. During the busy years of raising my daughter and teaching students with special needs, I rarely had time to express myself artistically. In 1996, I attended a watercolor workshop and fell in love with the medium. I taught myself to paint from books on watercolor techniques, incorporating my love of flowers and gardening into my floral paintings. Working on commission, I have also painted many portraits from photographs. I enjoy the challenge of creating a likeness of my subjects. Children’s portraits are my specialty but I have painted many adults, as well. Recently, I have expanded my repertoire to include the beloved pets of my customers. The three folders of “sold paintings” give the viewer a sample of my body of work over the past ten years. The majority of the floral paintings and all of the people and pet portraits were commissioned paintings. Retired now from 35 years of teaching, painting has changed from my hobby to my new career. I live with my husband, Richard, in Coal Harbour on Northern Vancouver Island in British Columbia. |
