Andrew James Hory Andrew James Hory Andrew James Hory

Andrew came to Canada from England as a child and grew up here on the North Island. He started carving with a penknife in 2000, and has since progressed to many more sophisticated tools, but still occasionally uses a penknife. He works in many mediums, including stone, clay, and glass, but it is wood that gives him the most satisfaction.

"To find a piece of discarded driftwood that many people might have looked at but few have really noticed, to cut it and shape it and find the grace within, changing the face it gives to the world while it is still inherently the same piece of wood, I love to do that. I learn with each piece about technique, but it is my eye and heart that grow the most as I learn to feel."
