Stacey Shook-HunterColor has long held a fascination for me. My most prized possessions as a child were those with brilliant hues. I am still fascinated and drawn to color. Using color in paintings to create optical illusions is a challenge for me. It's hard to control my childish delight in smearing color where I think it looks good instead of intelligently using the rules of the palette to create an illusion of space. Could this be the raisin d'etre of Abstract Expressionism?

Fabric painting is my most recent preoccupation. The appeal of this medium is there are no expected outcomes . . . at least none that were handed down to me in art school! I am happy to shake those chains off. Color alone, for the time being, can be the subject of my studies.

Art with function is new for me and I like the implications. Bring art into the everyday by manipulating the mundane tea towel! I am excited and invigorated exploring this new path.
